Nobel-prize winning essays
I took SLE in my freshman year. SLE brainwashed me, and gave me a lot of insight about the history and evolution of Western philosophy. My attitude towards life changed - here's the evidence: some essays I wrote when I was in SLE.
The Essays:
1. |
Justice |

This is the third essay written in my first quarter of SLE. It tries to identify a unifying theme in Greek tragedies, namely, the quest for justice. Jon Reider said to me after reading this essay, "Jimmy, you are a thinker."

2. |
Desert Island |

  |
This is a funny one. Imagine Descarte and Don Quixote survived a shipwreck and found themselves on a desert island. What happens next?
|
3. |
The Ascetic Ideal |

  |
This is my favorite. Ever wondered why there are religions or moral
systems? Are they necessary? Are they good or evil? This essay attempts to answer
this question based on arguments presented by Marx,
Nietzsche and Freud.
